Established through Decree of the Regional Authority 428/2007, published in the Gazette of Latium (BURL) no. 21 of 30.07.2007, the last of the natural monuments set up, together with the one in Torrecchia Vecchia, concerns territories of the municipalities of Cori and Artena. Apart from the lake, a biotope of landscape interest, the zone features woods and areas of high environmental value, avifauna typical of wet zones and a particularly intricate geological and hydrogeological system.
